✅ One 2 x 2 file, most U.S. applications

  • ·U.S. passport — new application or renewal, including the online renewal upload
  • ·U.S. visa — the DS-160 photo upload
  • ·Green card (I-485), naturalization (N-400), work permit (I-765) and other USCIS forms
  • ·Diversity Visa (DV) lottery entry — 600 x 600 px and under 240 KB
  • ·India e-Visa and OCI card — also a 2 x 2 square, 10 to 300 KB

※ File size limits differ by form. Our upload file is 60 - 230 KB, which fits all of the above — but check the limit printed on the form you are filing.

⚠️ Four rules that get U.S. photos rejected

  • 1. No eyeglasses. The U.S. has not accepted glasses since 2016 — prescription lenses are not an exception.
  • 2. No digital alteration. Filters, beauty mode and retouching are all rejected. That is why the formal-wear option is turned off for this format.
  • 3. No uniform, or clothing that looks like one.
  • 4. Not a selfie. The State Department asks that someone else take the photo — use a timer or a tripod and stand back.

What you get

  • Online upload file

    600 x 600 px — passport online renewal and DS-160. The same file fits an India e-Visa or OCI upload (2 x 2, 10 - 300 KB).

  • Print-ready single

    One 300 dpi high-resolution photo

  • 4 x 6 print sheet

Four 2 x 2 photos on one 4 x 6 in sheet, with cut lines

※ Which files you get depends on the item you bought. Everything arrives by email — we do not ship printed photos to the U.S.

🖨️ Print it yourself for about 40¢

The print sheet is a standard 4 x 6 in photo with 4 photos on it and cut lines between them. Send it to a drugstore or a photo kiosk as an ordinary 4 x 6 print, then cut along the lines.

※ A U.S. passport application needs one photo, so one sheet is plenty.

How to take it

  • · Have someone else take the photo, or use a timer — the State Department asks you not to use a selfie
  • · Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression or a natural smile, both eyes open
  • · Your head from crown to chin has to be 1 to 1 3/8 in (25–35 mm) — 50 to 69% of the frame height
  • · Take your glasses off — the U.S. has not accepted eyeglasses since 2016, prescription or not
  • · No hats or head coverings, unless you wear one daily for religious reasons
  • · Do not wear a uniform, or clothing that looks like one
  • · Plain white or off-white background with no shadow behind you
  • · Taken within the last 6 months
  • · No filters, beauty mode or retouching — digitally altered photos are rejected

Reasons photos get rejected

  • Eyeglasses X — not accepted in the U.S. at all
  • Hat or head covering X
  • Uniform, or clothing that looks like one X
  • Filters, beauty mode, retouching X
  • Shadow behind you X
  • Head fills 50 to 69% of the frame height
  • Plain white or off-white background
  • Facing the camera, shoulders level

Photo Chim AI

Turn a photo from your phone into a passport, visa or ID photo that meets the official spec.

※ This service delivers digital photo files by email. We do not ship printed photos to the United States — print the 4x6 sheet yourself at a drugstore or a photo kiosk.

※ U.S. passport and visa photos cannot be digitally altered or retouched. We crop to spec and clean up the background — we do not retouch faces.

※ The office that receives your photo has the final say on whether it is accepted.
